Cancelling a licence of right

If you cancel a licence of right entry, you must pay the difference between the renewal fees you have paid and those you would have paid if there had not been a licence of right entry.

To cancel a licence of right, you need to fill in Patents form 30 PDF document(19Kb). There is no charge for this.

You must say on the form that there is no existing licence under the patent or that all licensees agree to your application.

What happens next?

We will advertise your application in the Patents Journal and allow 4 weeks for anyone to oppose your cancellation request.

We will cancel the licence of right entry:

  • if there are no existing licences, and
  • you have paid the balance of renewal fees, and
  • any opposition to the cancellation has been dealt with.
